Shark fin soup.
Hey bananas:
It has raised my concerns that Shark fin soup has became a very popular and delicious delicacy but are you slurping this soup unknowingly?
But just how ready are people to say no to shark fin soup.
Well, one couple that recently got married did, though at a great cost. The couple skipped their wedding dinner and jetted off to Fuji on the day of the banquet when their parents refused to ban shark's fin soup at their Chinese wedding.
Figuratively speaking, they are one in a million most adults are still reluctant to give up the dish. The shark's fin has always been an integral part of the wedding dinner. It is considered an expensive delicacy and prestigious to eat.
Many are unaware of the cruel harvesting techniques behind the fins. You see, poachers catch the sharks, slice off the fins and throw the sharks back into the ocean to die a slow death. Sharks need to swim to breathe and if they cannot, they drown.
Fans of this soup however are sot so concerned with such matters and so they will still slurp up this very costly soup.
The editor of the magazine,Asia geographic, used the story of the wedding couple to illustrate his point that more people are aware of the killing of the sharks.Although more people are aware that the sharks are left to die after their fins are chopped off, that does not stop them from eating the dish. The shark population has reduced by 90 percent while the reported trade in fins has increased from 3000 metric tonnes to 7000 metric tonnes.
An organization called SOS, save our sharks(https://saveoursharks-sos.org/)has been set up to educate and reach out to more people about the barbaric act of removing shark fins and to eat less of it and if possible, none.
I hope my blog post will reach out to more and STOP drinking shark fin soup(stick to bananas!haha)

ReplyDeleteYay!! Love ur posts
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting blog! It's full of ✨facts✨ but this blog needs to reach out to a wider range if ppl so they can get educated on this and maybe eat less shark fins soup. The sharks are being thrown back into the sea and without fins, they cannot swim to find food. So to make it a less painful death for the sharks, is it possible to also make use of the meat?
ReplyDeleteAlso, we should avoid eating shark fins soup as the demand for shark fins soup has grown over the years and becoz of the demand, it may lead to over fishing in the sea. And sharks are actually quite important in the food web / chain as sometimes the increase in the number of preys for the shark can harm the ocean too in many ways. It is all interlinked.
yes!its great to have positive responses,as they always say, every small act helps!
